DISTRICT HALL MAYOR & COUNCIL COUNCIL MEMBERS & CONTACTS
Welcome to Agassiz, located in the District of Kent. We are very proud of our community. A number of “Five Bloom” Communities in Bloom Awards are evidence of the pride we take of our town and its surrounding District. Both long-term residents and those newer to the area know what a wonderful place it is to do business, work, live, raise a family, or enjoy retirement.
We have a thriving agricultural sector which is made up of mainly dairy and poultry operations. We also have a number of goat dairies, tree farming, and other specialty niche agri-businesses. Established with the help of Council two years ago, we now have a very successful Farmers’ Market that is open every Thursday, mid to late afternoon, during the summer months. The theme, “Make it, Bake it, Grow it”, has established available fresh regional produce, wonderful home baking, and unique hand-crafted items.
Our downtown offers all the products and services that you may need. We have a medical clinic, insurance agency, legal, pharmacy, two veterinary clinics, grocery stores, garages, restaurants, and coffee shops that rival those of larger communities. This is by no means all we offer. If you need something just ask one of our friendly residents.
Much of the District of Kent is scenic, unspoiled nature. It is easy to access hiking and cycling trails. There are a number of great golf courses to choose from close by. Good fishing, boating, and camping is available at Sasquatch Park and in Harrison Mills. While in Harrison Mills a visit to Kilby Historic Site and Farm and Store is a must. It is a great experience, whether you are young or just young at heart.
We love to celebrate. Our Annual Fall Fair and Corn Festival, held in mid September, rivals that of any true country fair. Many hard working volunteers in our Agricultural and Horticultural Association make this happen. We proudly show our patriotism on Canada Day. We share a piece of cake and take part in events organized on our front street (Pioneer Avenue) and in the beautiful park adjacent to it.
If you are looking for information please stop in at the Agassiz Visitor Information Centre, located in our Museum. You can also drop in at the District’s office, where you will get a very warm reception as well, or call at (604) 796-2235. I have by no means covered all the services offered in our community. Further exploration of the District’s website is another great way to learn more on the opportunities in our town.
