The Building Department is responsible for the following:

• Plan Checking for Building Code and Zoning Compliance

The Ministry of Health requires permits for all on-site sewer disposal systems, please call 604-793-7168 for information.

The Building Department enforces District of Kent bylaws. The District of Kent building policy requires that reinforcing steel be used in the footings and foundation walls due to soil conditions on the valley floor for small residential and accessory buildings. The District also has areas that will require the assistance of a Geo-Technical Engineer.

If you have any questions regarding any of the above issues call 604-796-2235. It is always a good idea to phone ahead and make an appointment to ensure that someone will be available for you. This also gives staff an opportunity to gather the correct information for you.
